Minna no Nihongo 7: Wa Arimasu and Wa Imasu

Hi, I’m ojachan 🙂 Today’s lesson is; 【第10課】 Lesson 10. Wa Arimasu and Wa Imasu

I’ll teach you with “ていねい語 teinei-go Polite expression ” 🙂

I’m going to tell you about ~wa arimasu and ~wa imasu today, which is called shozaibun. There are 2 different ways to express the existence of things.

⭐️あります is used only things.
You can use this for objects, place, incident,  plants, and so on. It is used for the objects which can’t move by itself. If you use this expression for people, it will be rude. so you should be careful.

⭐️います is used only creature.
You can use this for people, animals, and so on.

⭐️wa arimasu or wa imasu are you can highlight the PLACE / TIME  “に ni “.

Wa Arimasu

You can make 2 different ways of the sentences with  “wa arimasu“.

Object

There are letters and pictures in the box.
手紙　や　写真は　箱の　中に　あります。
てがみ　や　しゃしんは　はこの　なかに　あります。
tegami ya syashin wa hako no naka ni arimasu
箱の　中に　手紙　や　写真は　あります。
はこの　なかに　てがみ　や　しゃしんは　あります。
hako no naka ni tegami ya syashin wa arimasu

Place

There is the post office in front of the bank.
郵便局は　銀行の　前に　あります。
ゆうびんきょくは　ぎんこうの　まえに　あります。
yuubinkyoku wa ginkou no mae ni arimasu
銀行の　前に　郵便局は　あります。
ぎんこうの　まえに　ゆうびんきょくは　あります。
yuubinkyoku no mae ni yuubinkyoku wa arimasu

Incident

There is a firework festival at six.
花火大会は　六時に　あります。
はなびたいかいは　ろくじに　あります。
hanabitaikai wa rokuji ni arimasu
六時に　花火大会は　あります。
ろくじに　はなびたいかいは　あります。
rokuji ni hanabitaikai wa arimasu

Plant

There are irises in the park.
菖蒲は　公園に　あります。
しょうぶは　こうえんに　あります。
syoubu wa kouen ni arimasu
公園に　菖蒲は　あります。
こうえんに　しょうぶは　あります。
kouen ni syoubu wa arimasu

Wa Imasu

You can make 2 different ways of the sentences with  “wa imasu“.

Person

Yamada is not here.
山田さんは　ここに　いません。
やまださんは　ここに　いません。
yamadasan wa koko ni imasen
ここに　山田さんは　いません。
ここに　やまださんは　いません。
koko ni yamadasan wa imasen

Animal

There is a cat in the yard.
猫は　庭に　います。
ねこは　にわに　います。
neko wa niwa ni imasu
庭に　猫は　います。
にわに　ねこは　います。
niwa ni neko wa imasu

Where is the dog?
犬は　どこに　いますか。
いぬは　どこに　いますか。
inu wa doko ni imasuka
どこに　犬は　いますか。
どこに　いぬは　いますか。
doko ni inu wa imasuka

The dog is in the house.
犬は　家の　中に　います。
いぬは　いえの　なかに　います。
inu wa ie no naka ni imasu
家の　中に　犬は　います。
いえの　なかに　いぬは　います。
ie no naka ni inu wa imasu
